Blue Waters, Antigua

With a name like Blue Waters, you might have an inkling as to what you can expect at this Antiguan resort. While you'll lose yourself once or twice in the turquoise views of the Caribbean Sea across Soldier Bay, family-owned Blue Waters' elegance, gorgeous tropical gardens and first-class service have also combined to draw plenty of couples, honeymooners, families and other guests through its doors ever since it opened in 1960.

This really is a sublime slice of paradise and with its 17 acres of gardens and tranquil seafront location (it's the only resort on Antigua's north-west coast), it's hard to fathom a more beautiful spot in the Caribbean. Muted cream colours run throughout the resort, while the Caribbean charisma comes through in the form of bright bursts of blue, purple and turquoise in everything from the bar stools to the lampshades.

The resort's west-facing location ensures cinematic sunsets are an iconic moment of every evening but the level of service provided at Blue Waters arguably surpasses it for warmth. Many of the staff have been working here for decades and it shows, with their friendly smiles and incredible attention to detail - a pleasing feature of any stay. You'll be surprised at first by their length of service but as soon as you've been treated to the Blue Waters experience, you'll be the ones returning year after year.

Highlights

Blue Waters

Sleep

There are a multitude of room choices at Blue Waters and all are extremely comfortable, but we have to confess the Cove Suites tick all the boxes for us here at Turquoise. Each one is secluded, private and serving up uninterrupted panoramas of the Caribbean Sea, laden with a decor which is calm and very pleasing to the eye, crisp white linens, weathered wood and furnished balconies. A spacious living area flows into a generous bedroom – bathrooms are also oversized and exceptionally well-appointed. The Cove Suites also benefit from an infinity pool for the use of Cove Suite guests only.

Eat

With three restaurants and two bars you will be spoilt for choice. Enjoy breakfast with a view at The Palm Restaurant, which by night takes on a refined, soft and elegant vibe. Elsewhere, the clifftop Cove Restaurant fuses Caribbean and French cuisine with an almost effortless flair – expect flaming torches at the entrance and dining by candlelight. For a jovial, Caribbean vibe head to the Pelican Bar, whereas The Reef Restaurant is on hand to keep you cool and refreshed throughout the day with a fabulous menu of cocktails, mocktails and light lunch bites.

Play

There is an extensive range of facilities to keep you entertained at Blue Waters with tennis courts, a fully equipped gym and a plethora of water sports you can enjoy straight from the beach, including windsurfing, snorkelling and guided kayaking trips. There are four swimming pools, one of which is adults only, and any one of them is great for lazing beside all day. Blue Waters lies close to Antigua's only 18-hole PGA-rated golf course at Cedar Valley Golf Club and offers reduced green fees if you book direct through the resort.

Blue Waters also has its 24-foot yacht Monty Wave and can be booked by guests for up to six people from two-hour cruises to full-day charters. On land, you can sample some of the finest rums and wines at organised tasting sessions.

Pamper

Seeking something a little less strenuous during your time at Blue Waters? The resort's Spa is the perfect place to soothe any muscles tired after a long flight, with a complete range of massages and treatments.
