The Maldives has always been a top honeymoon destination. With pure sugar white beaches, some of the most luxurious resorts in the world, and a fantastic reputation for privacy (depending on where you go of course), the Maldives can truly deliver you a dream honeymoon. Don’t limit these lovely islands to just your honeymoon, though; they’re also perfect for any romantic break or an anniversary trip. It’s a great place to propose as well – we’ve had many a couple head to these islands only to return happily engaged and set about planning their honeymoon!
So, what’s so fantastic about the Maldives? Here are our favourites.
The Maldives has a profusion of fabulous beaches with sugar soft white sand. If you’re the type to list a walk at sunset on the beach as one of your top romantic experiences, this is genuinely a perfect place to do so. Better yet, enjoy champagne with your romantic dinner, accompanied by the simple sound of waves hitting the shore and the salty waft of the sea breeze. Go for a villa on the beach if this suits you and prepare to spend your lazy days relaxing underneath the sunny skies.
2. Breathtaking Diving
If you’ve never been diving before, you’re truly missing out. The world under the ocean is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before and the Maldives truly has some of the best diving around. If you’re not into actual SCUBA diving, you can always choose to go snorkelling and have a similar fantastic view of the underwater ecosystems. If neither of those options suit, you might opt for a trip in a glass bottomed boat.
The Maldives is famed for its overwater bungalows in particular and these elegant villa types are really the ideal choice for those who may not have a need to be on the beach all of the time. Instead, you’ll get an unbeatable view out to sea from many of the lagoons, feeling as though you and your loved one are at the centre of the universe. Imagine nothing before you but the horizon and one another. For honeymooners, it’s hard to imagine anything better! Plus, you’ll get steps right down into the water from your own private paradise, with a view right down into the water from the inside of your villa.
