1. Historically and in wedding etiquette… it’s the gentleman role to organise the honeymoon, turn up to the wedding and deciding on who’s the best man. Other than that, we have precious little to organise… so don’t break tradition, but we do recommend asking and involving your finance in your decision making process even if the honeymoon is to be a surprise.

2. Book your honeymoon well in advance for the best offers, rooms and airfares. We highly favour the well organised groom, a honeymoon is not something you should be organising at the last moment… we recommend six to ten months in advance. (No more than eleven months in advance though as airline schedules and prices are generally not released before then)

3. Take your time Gentlemen… research the key ingredients of your honeymoon including budget, weather and style….in short, talk to an expert who can quiz you on all the most important things to think about!

4. Budget & how much to spend… this is always a difficult question, but unfortunately a vital one in planning your honeymoon…have a look at our rough guide to budgets, or call us to for some suggestions.

5. Research the climate of your chosen destination at the time of year you are travelling… paradise is hell in the rain, talk to an expert about what to expect.

6. Think about what style of honeymoon will suite you and your new wife. Hotel Kia Ora Resort and Spa in the remote Tuamotu’s Island is great for some… no phones or electricity, just lanterns and romance. But if your girl lives by her blackberry and hairdryer this might not be for you.

7. Surprise your partner/wife with a flight upgrade for leg of your honeymoon journey…or if budgets are tight book a lounge at Heathrow to start your honeymoon in style and or if nothing else… something to say I love you!

8. Book with an ATOL bonded tour operator.  Choose a good one (like Turquoise) and you can’t go too far wrong.  Ask what they would do in an emergency & make sure they operate a 24h number…just in case anything goes wrong!

9. Do take out insurance however unlikely the worst seems to be.

10. Remember that Heaven is who you are with not a place.
