Many of our most desirable destinations, like Fiji and Australia, are hours away by plane – easily taking up an entire day’s travel time. Naturally, we have some couples who really don’t want to spend the day after their wedding on a flight, but still would prefer to leave on the same day as their wedding or on the day after. Travelling can be exhausting – one of the many reasons we recommend upgrading for your honeymoon – and a break can make all the difference. If you shy away from travelling for so long but still dream of a honeymoon in Tahiti, a stopover can save you the exhaustion of travelling and give you a different angle on the world than you’d previously expected. Stopovers are also great if you like the idea of a twin centre honeymoon, but would really like to spend the majority of your time in one destination.
Before you can consider a stopover, however, you need to decide on your main destination. For rather obvious reasons, it’s easier to do a stopover that comes naturally from switching flights than one which requires a further flight out of your way. A layover is always going to be tedious, so this is the perfect opportunity to brighten up your travel. But some destinations, especially across the world, can be travelled to more than one way. For example, flights to Australia are generally going around the world anyway, so they take about the same amount of time whether you head east or west. With relative ease, you can spend your stopover in LA or in Dubai, depending on where you’d like to go. There are options for multi-night stays as well as short day breaks; it’s all about how long you’d like to spend in your stopover and what you’d like to do there.
Dubai is a choice many of our clients request; it’s very convenient for Asia and Australasia because it is a natural perfect destination for a layover. As a result, we’ve picked out a couple of choice resorts for which you needn’t travel very far out of your way for a luxurious, romantic experience. Jumeirah Beach is a great place to stop, as it is about 20 miles from the airport but has some incredible resorts for a night or two away. The Ritz Carlton Dubai, for example, has its own stretch of beach, with all rooms boasting the elegance you should expect from this well-known name with a touch of Arabia at its finest, especially if you partake in Arabian food under the Bedouin tents in the garden. If you’re willing to travel 45 minutes, you might instead choose Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, a perfect choice for honeymooners with its privacy and seclusion. It’s designed to echo a traditional Bedouin encampment and will truly feel like your oasis in the middle of the desert – you’ll even have your own swimming pool – and you’ll know that you’re helping conserve the endangered wildlife of the desert while you’re at it, because the resort is located in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
