Having just returned from an epic island-hopping adventure around the Philippines, I’d love to share some must-sees in the Philippines and hopefully inspire you to visit this underrated gem in Southeast Asia. The Philippines, a collection of over 7,000 islands, boasts some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes I’ve ever seen. Distinct from the rest of Southeast Asia, its identity is shaped by Spanish and American influences and the diversity of its islands. Each island offers unique scenery, so I recommend visiting several locations as I did during my two-week stay.
A trip to the Philippines isn’t complete without visiting Palawan. Here, limestone karst islands rise from crystal-clear lagoons, secluded white-sand beaches, and vibrant reefs. I was captivated by hotels like El Nido Pangulasian (for luxury), El Nido Miniloc (for active stays near stunning landscapes), and Cauayan (for a rustic, castaway vibe), each offering breathtaking settings and local charm. For a vibrant beach stay with excellent dining and bustling shops, Boracay is a must. Its beaches are beyond stunning, and the Shangri-La Boracay, set between two magnificent beaches, provides ultimate luxury and incredible facilities.
Exploring lesser-visited islands, I fell in love with Siargao for its laid-back surf culture, palm groves, and mangroves. Those looking for complete immersion and an exclusive stay in this remote part of the country, I would recommend a stay at Nay Palad Hideaway, while independent travellers will feel at home at Maison Bukana. Bohol, a miniature version of the Philippines, offers diving, diverse landscapes, and beautiful beaches as well as the iconic Chocolate Hills and cute Tarsier species. Stay on Panglao’s beaches or at Loboc River Resort for a lush, green escape.
