Carlisle Bay – Turquoise top ten reasons to visit!
Tucked away on one of Antigua’s best beaches and surrounded by lush rainforest, Carlisle Bay is a firm Turquoise favourite, as our product manager, Rachel Gleave discovered on a recent visit.
How lucky am I to explore the beautiful island of Antigua for work. I’d seen the beautiful pictures of Antigua’s idyllic beaches and friendly locals and was not disappointed. There is a style of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, but Carlisle Bay certainly stood out as a highlight for me. From the moment I stepped foot in the airy lobby, I immediately felt a warm welcome and could tell that this resort was perfect for our discerning guests.
The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and professional and the beach……. well it is exactly what you expect when dreaming of castaway Caribbean beaches with turquoise water, soft pale sand, and calm water lapping on the shore – ideal for small children. The 87 stylish, contemporary suites, each with its own balcony, are spread along the beach, making the best of the sunset sea views and the four restaurants serve up delicious treats, whether on the beach, by the pool or at East, their Asian restaurant (my favourite).
I could wax lyrical for days so here are my top ten recommendations for a memorable stay in Antigua and Carlisle Bay…….Beyond the beach of course!!
1. Gather around the fire pit by the Jetty Grill for live music every Friday.
2. Book a complimentary tennis clinic to improve your game.
or try pickleball, which seems all the rage in Antigua. (There are nine private tennis courts at Carlisle Bay, with professional instructors).
3. Explore the gardens and surrounding rainforest with a trek to Mount Obama for some of the best views over Antigua.
The hotels own nature guides will guide you through nature trails, pointing out the array of tropical plants and flowers.
4. Spend Sunday evening at Shirley Heights and enjoy a spectacular sunset, steel drums and plenty of rum punches.
5. Indulge in a relaxing spa treatment at Blue Spa, an exceptional spa with six treatment rooms and treatments using the skincare brand Voya.
6. Catch a movie in ‘The Screening Room’, a luxurious 45 seat cinema, complete with cocktails and popcorn served seat-side.
7. Enjoy some of the best sushi and Asian specialities at East.
8. Learn to windsurf, sail, or simply take out a paddle board on the calm waters of Carlisle Bay
9. Start your day with sunrise Yoga and Pilates on the jetty.
10. Charter the resort’s luxury FJORD36 yacht for a day trip to Nelson’s Dockyard or a romantic sunset cruise.
For me, Carlisle Bay ticked all the boxes for a wonderful beach escape and I’d recommend a stay for anyone planning their next holiday in the sun.
