We are thrilled to celebrate the centenary of New Zealand’s iconic Huka Lodge at Taupõ. Part of the esteemed Baillie Lodges collection, this ‘grand dame of luxury lodges’ emerges this month from a NZ$ 20 million redesign, welcoming a new generation of global luxury traveller.

Led by Baillie Lodges founder, James Baillie, in partnership with esteemed interior designer Virginia Fisher and architect Christian Anderson, the sustainable renovation project sought to connect guests with the riverside setting, while bolstering the building’s energy effiency. From its beginnings as a fishers’ camp, the property’s new, biophilic architecture embraces its proximity to the Waikato River, alongside which guests can now bask in an open-air lounge as well as in its 17 acres of award-winning show gardens, equipped with a converted multi-purpose court.
A newly transformed main lodge features a cleverly designed bar alongside an expansive outdoor terrace with open fireplace and glass roofed pergolas. Meanwhile, an extended, light-filled Dining Room and newly spacious River Room offers guests a dose of relaxation. There are now two upstairs private areas – The Loft and Piper Room – ideal for intimate dinners and celebrations, and the hotel’s 20 luxury guest suites and two owners’ residences have been completed redesigned.
Elsewhere, the new wellness grounds feature a series of Huka Spa Huts, taking design inspiration from the traditional Kiwi ‘bach’ or holiday house that together house a gym along with two spa treatment rooms, a sauna, surprise ice contrast shower and a steaming plunge pool. When not being pampered, guests can enjoy three ‘Rare and Remarkable’ experiences, launched to usher in Huka Lodge’s new era. Adventurers can expect food, wine and scenic heli flights with the ‘Craggy Range Culinary Escape’, while the ‘Epic Rotorua’ itinerary features thrilling helicopter rides, insights into the Māori culture, zip lining and more. Lastly, the ‘Ultimate Huka Experience’ comprises heli lift-off in a northerly or southerly direction, taking guests’ experience of Taupõ to spectacular new heights.
From £1,850 per person including 3 nights in a Lodge Suite, daily breakfast and gourmet dinner, pre-dinner drinks and canapes, one complimentary lunch, a variety of lodge activities and return transfers from Taupõ airport.
