With its unharmed coral reef and vast array of tropical fish this really is the place to try out a new diving location on the African coastline.
Fundu Lagoon resort is located on a secluded beach, only accessible by boat. Stay in one of hotel’s 18 Makuti thatched suites all of which boast an undisturbed panoramic view over the Indian Ocean. Close by there’s a handful of local beach bars, offering fresh Zanzibar cuisine, ‘caught that day fresh fish’ and handpicked delicious tropical fruits fresh off the surrounding trees.
The main diving season runs from October to March and consists of wall and reef dives which welcome scuba enthusiasts of every level from beginners to those more experienced. Blotched fantail rays, Mobula rays and spotted Shovelnose rays are just some of the magnificent rare fish you may get the chance to see whilst diving in this tranquil spot.
There are several dive destinations which you can access whilst staying at Fundu Lagoon on Pemba. Emerald reef and Coral garden being top of our hit list. Emerald reef stands above the rest due to its crystal clear waters however, it does take slightly longer to get to – up to 40 minutes but is more than worth it to see barracudas! The Coral garden is known for being one of the best dive spots due to its diversity of coral. Take the round table corals for an example; they start from 4 meters from the surface of the water to around 20 meters down! Here also live big fish on most experienced divers to see list, such as the Napoleone wrasse and Giant Trigger Fish.
