Overview of Elsa’s Kopje Lodge in Kenya’s Meru National Park
Off the beaten track, extremely secluded with the most heart warming story behind it all: welcome to , a one of a kind lodge in Meru National Park. You may have heard this name before and that’s because the park was made famous in the 1960s by Joy and George Adamson who wrote a wonderful book about their lioness Elsa which then was made into the movie Born Free.

One Of The Best Places To See Giraffes & Butterflies In Kenya
You won’t only be impressed by the National Park, the lodge and its history, but by the wildlife too – we arrived with no precise expectations, knowing this area isn’t as prolific in wildlife as the Masai Mara or bigger game reserves in Kenya; however, we were totally blown away. The first thing you will notice is the huge numbers of reticulated giraffes and these stunning animals will keep you company each day as you are pretty much guaranteed to see them on every activity you may take part in – so elegant, graceful and ethereal… impossible not to photograph them on every occasion! If travelling during our European summer, you may also encounter thousands of butterflies, so colourful and magical, adding something unique to your experience. It’s definitely one of the best places to see giraffes and butterflies in Kenya!

The park has so much more to offer than just giraffes and butterflies, as they have a very big focus on rhino conversation so you may spot white and black rhinos, as well as lions, hippos, elephants, lesser knows species sauch as caracal and aardwolf and over 400 species of birds – so be ready with your finest binoculars and cameras, because the opportunities to spot some marvellous wildlife are endless.
The lodge itself is a real African gem, so beautifully decorated and crafted around the rocks and using local materials. Each suite is different, but they all have the most impressive view of the park. After a wonderful safari activity, which can vary from a classic game drive to a walking safari or river fishing, you can also enjoy a dip in the infinity pool or a relaxing massage.
