Over the years, we’ve seen an increasing number of our couples head off on a second honeymoon, sometimes with children in tow. There has also been a huge rise in weddings abroad, where a couple will head off along with their families to get married in an exotic locale, and then usually spend part of their honeymoon there or head off to enjoy some proper alone time together.
Combining the romance of a honeymoon with enough play time for a family with children isn’t easy. Not many resorts easily pull off both, but with a bit of careful planning, you can have an amazing time – for everyone.
- For older couples or those on a second marriage, the chances are you are probably well-travelled and fairly self-sufficient so look for destinations that suit more independent travellers. You may prefer your own villa and perhaps even a self-catering facility; with this in mind you will feel more comfortable than in a traditional honeymoon resort.
- If you have children and plan to take them with you, consider an ultra glamorous family- friendly destination. If you have older children or have the option of leaving them with the grandparents, look for one with a twin centre option, which will be rewarding for teens who can understand the culture around them.
- Decide if you want to put your children in a crèche, or if you want them to stay with you. If it is the latter, especially for older children, look for somewhere that has lots of family activities to keep them entertained. You may also think about self catering options for convenience and cost.
- Try destinations such as the sophisticated, child friendly Grand Cayman followed by a few days on the paradise island of Little Cayman which together really do tick the box for the whole family.
