Earlier this year we teamed up with Conde Nast Brides for their competition ”Minute to Win it” at Brides the Show. Couples got the opportunity to tell us (in one minute) why they should win a honeymoon to Six Senses Laamu in The Maldives. After lots of deliberation Alexandra and Andrew were the lucky winners! Whilst they were away they did some fabulous filming, photographing and droning from paradise. Since they have been back we have been quizzing them on all things Laamu….

If you could describe your experience at Six Senses Laamu in three words what would they be?

Utopian. Tranquil. Paradise.

Can you describe what room you stayed in?

A beautiful Lagoon Water Villa overlooking the ocean with an outdoor shower, transparent bath with ocean floor views, outlook post for picturesque sunsets and large patio to soak in the sun’s rays.

What was your favourite meal at Six Senses Laamu?

Apart from the Ice cream and sorbet bar, which was always on tap to serve your sweet tooth needs, the local Maldivian food on the street market night was delicious. The food was all exceptional, especially with many of the herbs/ingredients coming straight from the organic gardens on the island, but the flavours of the local Maldivian food really stood out.

Where was your favourite spot to chill out at Six Senses Laamu?

We gravitated towards the tranquillity of our Villa’s patio. The house reef was a short swim away should we want to go snorkelling. The hammocks in the Ocean came a close second. We also made a daily visit to the spa which incredibly relaxing, with it’s beautiful ocean front yoga studio and treatment rooms.

What would be your perfect day at Six Senses Laamu?

Our perfect day at Six Senses Laamu would be to wake up and cycle, with one of the bicycles which accompany each villa to the extensive breakfast buffet. After letting our food settle, and maybe picking up a quick ice cream or sorbet, we would go out snorkelling with the in-house marine biologist to find turtles, rays and sharks. To relax after snorkelling we would head over to the spa for one of the complimentary classes or to indulge in a treatment. All that massage and snorkelling works up an appetite so we would head over to the Sip-sip bar where we would get a bar seat in the pool. It is much more refreshing to dine sitting in a pool. A fresh coconut and some ceviche would set us in good stead for some beach activities – usually paddle boarding or stick mobility with the visiting practitioner. Activities usually led to a short power nap in the sun on the patio of the Villa before snorkelling at sunset. The variety of places to dine for dinner was always an fond experience so we would select our evening pillow from the pillow menu and get dressed up for whichever dining venue we would be visiting that evening. Dinner was always exceptional – followed by an ice cream or sorbet(!!). On our way back to the Villa we would poke our heads in to see which movie was playing on the outdoor cinema before slipping into bed after a thoroughly enjoyable day.

What would be the one person/experience/moment that made Six Senses Laamu for you?

Everyone was absolutely amazing from Sochil at the Spa to Mohammed Ali at the restaurant. We spent a lot of time with the visiting practitioner Ritchie who was a wealth of knowledge for understanding how to take better care of your body and mind. Not only did he teach us stick mobility and surf yoga but gave an amazing sports therapy massage.

In terms of experience the highlight was when we were snorkelling next to the Villa and a large Stingray and smaller Eagle Ray both swam right underneath us.
