A small island south of Australia, Tasmania boasts tons of potential for adventurous holidaymakers who are looking for something a little bit different for their next trip abroad. This is because Tasmania has a large amount of wildlife, with 37% of the state in reserves, national parks, and other World Heritage sites.
To truly enjoy the best of Tasmania, a wildlife tour is completely necessary. Whether you want to do multiple days of walking or a single adventurous day, we have a number of options to help you plan your ideal Tasmania holiday. With our upcoming Tasmania event, this is a great time to start thinking about your next holiday in Tasmania. Here are just a few of the great adventure experiences you could have.
Pepper Bush Adventures are a group dedicated to giving you the adventure you’ve always longed for. The company, run by Craig and Janine Williams, arranges bespoke tours tailored to guests’ interests and requirements. Craig Williams is the star of the show, as he has a genuine love for Tasmania that reflects through all of his tours. He also has access to over 200,000 acres of private land, so he will take you off-road to ensure you’re getting the best experience possible. Plus, he has so much experience in the wilderness that he’s incredibly talented at spotting those animals – and if you’re camping away, he’ll prepare gourmet campfires under the stars.
Bay of Fires Walk is a four day beach walk down the east coast of Tasmania’s northern shore. This area is known as the Bay of Fires because the original explorers first saw Aboriginal campfires in the area. Unfortunately there are no longer indigenous Tasmanians, but the landscape is still absolutely beautiful, with a stunning coastline, white sand beaches, and clear blue water to rival the best of the islands across the world. The entire area is full of wildlife, with kangaroos, echidnas, brush-tail possums, wombats, wallabies, and more. The small groups that head through the wilderness are led by Tasmanian guides, and at night you will either camp or head to the Bay of Fires Lodge.
Maria Island Walk is set off of Tasmania’s mainland on a little island. You’ll start with a short boat ride and continue down the untouched beaches, secluded coves, and towering mountains. This walk, also four days, takes you up through a variety of beaches, finishing at the convict settlement at Darlington and the Fossil Cliffs. It’s a fairly leisurely walk, with spectacular views of beaches, with an average of 4-6 hours of walking per day.
