A new generation of luxury travel trends are upon us. Authentic and unique experiences are fast becoming the number one ‘must’ on holiday bucket lists… especially for those travelling with little ones in tow. Since day one, Gili Lankanfushi, one of our favourite Maldivian island hideaways, has been one step ahead of this fast-paced trend, so it came as no surprise to hear of their new ‘Kids Go Crusoe’ programme launching this summer.
The creative Crusoe inspired concept, run by the islands very own team of Mr. Fridays, provides all children visiting between now and the 20th of December 2018, with a chance to experience three unique and exciting adventures during their holiday. Each option has been designed to enrich, enlighten and educate; encouraging children to engage with local communities, explore life beyond the island and learn about traditional Maldivian cultures.
The Maldives is the perfect destination for those looking to book a winter-sun escape or half-term break. Families can enjoy 7 nights from £10,199 at Gili Lankanfushi, based on two adults and two children sharing a Residence on a half board basis, inclusive of transfers, international flights and three of the below ‘Kids Go Crusoe’ activities. 1. The Gili Pirate Party.
Could there be a better way of kicking off a holiday than on the secluded sandbank of nearby ‘One Palm Island’, where budding explorers will spend an afternoon hunting for treasure, sipping on fresh coconuts and learning island survival, building rafts and beach shelters from scavenged natural materials.
2. Wild Art.
Giving arts and crafts a fun Crusoe twist, children will be encouraged to get creative with their new survival and scavenger skills, using natural materials such as coconut coirs and palm leaves to design island-inspired artwork.
3. Natural Cooking Class.
Step-aside Mum and Dad, a new generation of Crusoe chefs will be taking the flavours of the Maldives home. Guided by the Gili chefs, children will be able to collect their own fruits, vegetables and herbs from the island’s organic gardens, learning how to make a traditional Maldivian curry, as well as fresh juices and smoothies.
4. Music & Dhivehi language classes.
Working in conjunction with the local community of nearby Himmafushi island, children will have an introduction to local island life, music and culture in these fun and interactive classes. In no time at all they will be ordering their breakfast pancakes in the native tongue, as well as tapping along to the island beat on traditional Bodu Beru drums.
5. Underwater treasure hunt.
Last but not least is perhaps our favourite of all the ‘Kids Go Crusoe’ activities; an underwater treasure hunt! With a strong focus on conservation and sustainability, budding water-babies will be join the islands team of marine biologists, learning all about the vibrant reef, whilst getting to know the resident fish, eagle rays and turtles.
