Ready to really splurge on your honeymoon? Getting married is such a thrilling time; if you’re fortunate enough to be able to spend the big bucks on your honeymoon, you still want to make sure you’re spending that money right. For many, the honeymoon is the holiday of a lifetime, and expenditure reflects that. Many of our clients are looking for honeymoons that are really out of the ordinary, heading from twin centre honeymoons to trips that go around the world and last through weeks of indulgence.
For couples looking for that extra touch, we suggest heading outside the classic combos of safari beach or city and resort and looking for something different. A new take on old favourites, like pairing Oman and the Maldives, can really provide a completely different experience, and heading out to India to finish in splendour is never a bad idea.
Our top tips for those without constraints:
- Treat your honeymoon as an adventure, a chance to explore the world.
- Do something different for your honeymoon with one really outlandish or one-time experience, such as a yacht charter around Tahiti or conservation work in Africa
- Strive for a different version of a classic: the ultra-romantic overwater bungalow on stilts is probably the single most requested type of accommodation. While the Maldives, Tahiti and Fiji do these brilliantly, why not try some new destinations such as Pangkor Laut in Malaysia? You could also try Borneo where a gorgeous new eco resort called Gayana has opened.
- Time is likely to be a factor as you are both probably in high powered careers, so you may be considering the 10 or 12 day honeymoon. If this is the case, make sure you turn every moment of your honeymoon into a romantic experience – even little things like airport transfers can be made incredibly special by using seaplanes, 007-style speedboats, hot air balloons and elephants. We also recommend flying in business class to minimise jet lag and maximise the old fashioned glamour of travel.
- Hot destinations for 2012 include Vietnam, which has become much more accessible with direct flights from the UK, and Burma. We suggest twinning the gorgeous Orient Express Hotels, with The Road to Mandalay Cruises as well.
This sort of honeymoon will probably cost from £5000 per person and up, so really do only consider these if you’re prepared to spend that amount of money.
