Our Review of Niyama Private Islands In The Maldives
In the Maldives, we’re blessed with plenty of options when it comes to luxury island retreats. Across a series of blogs, we’ve handpicked some of our far-flung favourites so you can get a flavour of what each of these beautiful boltholes has to offer in terms of its whereabouts, food, accommodation and unique experiences. It’s the turn of cool and contemporary Niyama Private Islands…
Niyama’s Play & Chill Islands, Maldives
Why go to one Maldivian island when you can go to two? Only a 45-minute seaplane from Malé, Niyama is spread across two islands connected by a wooden bridge – ‘Play’ is the livelier of the two and ideal for families and the tranquil vibes of ‘Chill’ is heaven for honeymooners romance-seeking couples.
Niyama Maldives Restaurants
Each island has its own hub for all-day dining with Blu (Play) and Epicure (Chill). Niyama’s other restaurants offer a range of memorable dining experiences, with Nest serving Asian cuisine in a treetop setting, Subsix the place for underwater lunches and Edge is a fine-dining feast found half a kilometre out into the ocean and only accessible by boat. You can also grab a light lunch from the Deli on the go! We also love Tribal – a campfire beachside inspired dining venue offering gourmet grill delights and the poolside ice cream parlour packed with homemade treats like crepes, sherbets, and smoothies.
Overwater & Beach Pool Villas
All of Niyama’s villas and pavilions offer the ultimate in privacy on both islands, no matter whether you’re on the beach or over the water. With king-size beds, your own thakuru (butler) and a mini-bar overflowing with treats, including popcorn and ice cream, staying in is the new going out at Niyama. Apart from the Beach Villas, every room comes with its own private pool as well.
Subsix Restaurant At Niyama
Before it became a full-time restaurant, Subsix was opened as the world’s first underwater nightclub. Although weekly glow parties still occur, so you can still let your hair down underwater!
Our Turquoise tip
Niyama really specialises in the complete dining experience. You’re joined by a crackling fire and authentic tribal dances at African-inspired Tribal and Dune is like you’re in the Caribbean, with a Bajan mixologist running the rum bar.
