Welcome to the Turquoise Travel Diaries, a collection of interviews, stories and excerpts from our fabulous team, as they travel around the world. Here at Turquoise we pride ourselves on unrivalled knowledge of the destinations in which we specialise, so that we can provide honest, expert advice to all our guests and fellow travellers. This week, our we hear from Maldives enthusiast Antony who has returned from his trip to the magical Indian Ocean with a fresh update on dreamy Niyama Private Island.
On the wonderful rooms and our Turquoise tips…
Niyama is a large island with lots of room types, so it’s really important to make sure that you’ll be staying in just the right location for you! The Beach villas all offer lovely sunrise views, but if you want to watch the sunset from your villa then look to upgrade to a Beach Villa with pool (rooms 2-23 are the ones to go for!) If you’re in the Maldives celebrating with friends and family then the Deluxe Water Studio, One Bedroom Water Pavilion and Two Bedroom Ocean Pavilion can all be booked for a larger group. For honeymooners, requesting a Deluxe Water Studio with Pool has the added benefit of your own jacuzzi! Niyama doesn’t have a house reef but there’s a small area on Chill island by villa numbers 25&26, and snorkelling trips are available at a charge of approximately $45.
On Food and Drink…
There are an incredible 9 different outlets at Niyama that will appeal to everyone, whatever your taste buds desire! On this trip my favourites were The Deli which serves freshly made sandwiches and baguettes and homemade ice cream with fun toppings, and the Surf Shack which is a great laid-back bar and really lovely for sunset.
On special extras…
Niyama is the perfect resort if you’re looking for all kinds of activities. For the health conscious, there’s complimentary daily yoga at 8am, tennis and badminton. For the big kids there’s a playroom with an Xbox, PlayStation, snooker table, a chargeable indoor cinema and even a simulator room! For romance, private dinners and renewal of vows can be done on the beach near the crescent. Other fun experiences include the first Outdoor 3D cinema in the Maldives, pushbikes available to explore the island, cooking classes and you can even organize a photoshoot!
On the Spa…
If you’re looking for a fresh take on spa treatments then Niyama definitely has this. In their modern and light-filled spa they make use of great French and Australian products, as well as local spa products made with fantastic smelling coconut oil. If you’re looking for a real health boost, the spa also offers blood analysis and personal training.
On the amazing Explorer Kids Club…
The kids club accepts any child from 12 months up to 11 years old. If you want your little one to be looked after from the age of 12 months up to the age of 3, then Niyama can certainly offer this with a charge from $20 per hour – this is then capped at 5 hours. The kids’ club is huge, with two different areas for younger and older children. We love all of the inclusions such as the nap room, tv room, organised activities, snack area, cooking area, stage, fountains to play in, Xbox and trampoline!
