Keeping within the established ethos of Six Senses, Zil Pasyon does not stray, in fact, it excels all practices. With it being a new hotel on an old uninhabited island, a huge amount of work has been done already to restore and protect the ecosystems.
Habitat restoration
Six Senses refreshed the island using plants, shrubs, and trees indigenous or endemic to Seychelles. They bought across new species from different islands in keeping with Félicité – no artificial landscapes or imported flowers. As you can imagine for a new hotel with strict dates to open, this required a lot of detailed work. Before Six Senses Zil Pasyon opened, 8 years of habitat restoration had been done to create a biodiversity which is far richer and varied. Over this time many species of birds have been reintroduced, such as the Seychelles Magpie Robin and the Seychelles Warbler. The work continues and will do forever, in order to maintain the emerging ecological jewel of the Seychelles that is Six Senses Zil Pasyon.
Energy conservation
Producing energy would usually create pollution, however, at Six Senses Zil Pasyon, the island has taken steps to reduce energy usage and to use renewable energy throughout the hotel. Firstly there are many solar water heaters in use. Sunlight heats solar panels which generates electricity to heat water which is used throughout the hotel. Another area they reduce energy use is with air conditioning units, they use low environmental impact system which is considerably better.
Waste reduction
The Six Senses Zil Pasyon team recycle and reuse all vegetal remains or use them for compost. They are always looking for new ways to reduce waste used on the island. For example, the island talks to suppliers to reduce the waste generated and to ensure they dispose of it properly. The paper used for printing is recycled, plastic bags are recycled along with glass and water bottles. Composting is also very active on the island with a purpose built composting site.
Water
There is a desalination process at Six Senses Zil Pasyon, providing fresh water for showering and drinking throughout the hotel. Along with this, there is a water bottling plant where reverse osmosis plant and crystal water refinery which produces mineralised water plant without any carbon footprint. Water is provided for guests in villas, however, in restaurants it is chargeable and profits go directly to ‘’Clean Water Projects’’ to enable people without access to clean water to get support. The also provide water systems and water heaters to La Digue.
Social Responsibility
Finally, but perhaps most importantly of all, a key initiative for Six Senses Zil Pasyon is social responsibility. The hotel employs local Seychellois staff, along with offering internships and work experience opportunities.
