Where to stay in Sydney?

Following a recent trip to Australia, we caught up with Antony, one of our Senior Travel Specialists here at Turquoise, to get the low-down on the ultra-cool Capella Sydney, one of our top picks for where to lay your head whilst in the city.

Where is the Capella Sydney located?

The hotel is just a short stroll from Circular Quay, a fantastic location for anyone visiting Sydney

Is the hotel best for couples or families?

Although it welcomes all ages, I’d say this hotel is best suited to couples, most of the rooms only take two adults and there’s quite a sophisticated atmosphere throughout.

What was your favourite room type?

capella suite

The Skyline Rooms won the prize for me, quite simply down to the breath-taking views. However, even the lead-in smaller room categories were lovely and perfectly comfortable for a few nights in Sydney.

Are there any cool amenities in the hotel?

swimming pool capella sysney

There is an indoor pool on the top floor. The evening entertainment is also great – sushi making classes, cocktail making classes and an indigenous lady who comes in to talk to guests about aboriginal traditions.

Let’s talk lunch. How was the menu and what did you eat?

The menu was outstanding! The hotel restaurant received two hats (Aussie equivalent to a Michelin star) within the first three months of opening which really says it all. I had the Sydney rock oysters, crab and urchin risotto and a whole lobster which were all incredible. The oysters were so good I had to order more! There are so many fabulous restaurants to choose from in Sydney but for foodies, this hotel is perfect.

Number one must-do whilst in Sydney?

Without doubt, a Sydney Harbour Cruise!

Visit Sydney from September to November and February to may, when the weather is pleasant, you will find less crowds too.
