Malaysia is often seen as second best to its more well-trodden neighbours Thailand and Singapore, however it has so much to offer in its own right. From the bustling urban capital of Kuala Lumpur to the rich, historic jungle in Langkawi, there is so much here to make it worth going!
Having last been to Malaysia about 10 years ago, I was intrigued and anxious to see how the country had changed in that time and if it still felt as authentic as it did all those years ago. I was not disappointed and I think the most unexpected surprise was the genuine warmth I received from the Malay people. They say Thailand is the land of the smiles however I think Malaysia could give it a run for its money! The people are genuinely happy to meet you and with a great sense of humour.
On my most recent trip I was lucky enough to venture over to the private island of Pangkor Laut, the unspoilt beaches at Tanjong Jara, Kuala Terengganu and the stunning jungle of Langkawi. All different, unique and special but retaining the essence of the country. Pangkor Laut and Tanjong Jara, part of the YTL hotel group are perfect for a relaxing beach break (you can’t beat slipping a cocktail looking out at Emerald Bay!) but still with the option to explore the local islands, take a trip to the market with the hilarious Chef Ann, or for the more active enjoy a guided cycling tour……..whilst dodging the odd monitor lizard crossing you path!
For the jungle lovers Langkawi is a must with ancient thick jungle surrounding some of the most luxurious properties in the world. Nothing can quite match up to the incredible Datai which sits on the hillside overlooking the pristine beach with nothing but the sound of the birds to distract you
