A couple of our clients have just returned from a honeymoon in South Africa, where they enjoyed luxury safaris both traditionally and by rail.
Overall, we had a fantastic time. If you’re looking recommendations for other clients then our overall favourite had to be Makanyane I think. Everything they provided was fantastic, as a team they seem to work together really well and we also got excellent views from the lodge (eg had an elephant come within around 7m of us when we were out the back of our lodge on our own!)
Similarly, Rovos was great and again I think we felt we got enough out of this to justify the high price tag (other clients should be aware that the Pullman compartments like we had our pretty small but the dimensions were in the brochure so can’t complain and next size up was 50% more pricewise).
The cheaper places we stayed in SA were also excellent and I think we’d rate the Whalesong as the best of these but really they were all good.
Probably worth mentioning security given it is quite topical for SA, expecially right now. I guess everyone has to be clear that there are risks but we never really had any unnerving moments so wouldn’t hesitate to return. Unlike the couple in the press we wouldn’t head into a township at night and I hope that incident doesn’t reflect on the country as a whole.
