The Must-Stay Top Luxury Hotels in Santorini, Greece
The unique landscape of the white houses etched into the cascading cliff-face, peppered with the blue church tops and swimming pools, is an iconic image of Santorini. Seeing it for my own eyes is truly something else. Santorini oozes romance and beauty at every corner, so the chance to experience the island through three gorgeous hotels – Istoria in Perissa, Katikies Santorini in Oia and Katikies Garden in Fira, was a dream come true. This was such a special opportunity to become fully entangled in all the island’s magic, love and feta.
With that said, I’m passing the knowledge onto you with the inside scoop on these must-stay-in top luxury hotels in Santorini, Greece, plus things to do nearby!
1. Istoria Hotel In Parissa Beach – Santorini, Greece
It all began at Istoria on the south-east coast, a uniquely stylish converted horse stables with only twelve suites. It is irresistibly intimate, and chic and the neutral colours create a luxurious and serene ambience. The hotel spills out onto the black sand of Perivolos Beach, an inspiring location and reminder of the volcanic eruptions which have given this island its unique identity. Istoria guests enjoy exclusive use of beach beds. Along the beachfront in both directions, traditional restaurants and bars serve all your Greek food favourites. Lazing in our private hot tub and enjoying a cocktail at the infinity pool bar was the perfect way to unwind and while away an afternoon. Watching the sunrise over the black sand as the sky turned an alluring pink and orange was a mesmerising experience, made even better when followed by one of Istoria’s deliciously eclectic a la carte breakfasts. The eggs benedict and the French toast are an absolute must have!
2. Katikies Hotel & Villas In Oia, Santorini
Next stop was the north of the island and as we journeyed through the hilly landscape, we gazed awe-struck at the volcanic islands poking out of the sea views. Arriving in Oia, the iconic pristine white layers of blue domed churches and cave houses surpassed all my expectations (I had scoured many photos and videos before travelling!) Katikies Santorini takes full advantage of its prime location on the caldera’s cliff edge, with a seemingly endless maze of steps connecting the rooms and swimming pools.
Instantly the hotel took my breath away with its glistening white façade against the blue ocean. This is classic picture-postcard Santorini at its undeniable best! The whole property emanates romance and we felt overflowed with love and joy at simply being there. The three infinity pools are all stunning spots from where to soak up the sunshine.
3. Activities & Things To Do In Oia, Santorini
Wandering through Oia is like strolling through a dream, with restaurants and shops flowing effortlessly onto the winding streets. Nearby, an energetic hike down a multitude of steep cliffside steps to the Bay of Ammoudi, is a must-do for any visitor – you will be rewarded with fresh seafood on the waterfront. The sunset over Oia, with its enchanting colours, is always a bucket list moment and when it comes to dining, there are so many delicious eateries and restaurants, all vying for your vote. In the mornings, nothing beats the Katikies ritual of drawing back the curtains to reveal the jaw-dropping view before wandering down to a delectable breakfast – I can recommend the traditional eggs with feta and tomato!
4. Katikies Garden Hotel In Fira, Santorini
From Oia, a short drive back down the island took us to Santorini’s capital town of Fira, where the beautiful Katikies Garden hotel is located. A converted monastery with strong stone foundations, I was immediately enchanted as we walked through the old architecture into the stunning courtyard. I felt like I was stepping into the secret garden of a storybook dream. The forest green punctuated with pops of pink provides the most striking aesthetic, intertwined with domed tunnels leading to enthralling rooms. Katikies Garden has a special unique soul. The staff are so attentive and kind. Our room, the honeymoon suite, with its huge balcony and private pool, nestled between the bells of the monastery, was utterly gorgeous.
5. Things To Do In The Town Of Fira, Santorini
Just a few steps from the door of the hotel, the town of Fira has a lively vibe and spirit! You are instantly transported into Fira’s narrow-stoned labyrinth of restaurants and boutiques, which zig-zag through the town. If you’re addicted to tzatziki like me, you’ll be in heaven with the endless choice of cute little eating spots. A walk along the front of the caldera brings another chance to savour Santorini’s awe-inspiring panorama! Back at Katikies Garden, a relaxing drink in the twinkling courtyard with its ornate central fountain and birdcage styled bar immerses you into the magic of the hotel’s monasterial past. As if this monastic oasis couldn’t get any better… there is an amazing rooftop infinity pool which beguiles you with its views.
To experience all three of these luxury hotels in Santorini Greece in such hypnotic tandem was an evocative way to experience very different parts of this island. It’s beyond magical, and each of these hotels unlocks its own unique and deep connection to this endearingly romantic Greek isle.
