There are a number of wonderful hotels in Mauritius, a hotel for everyone. But only a handful that pass the Turquoise romantic test for the perfect honeymoon. We have scoured the island and bring you the three very best honeymoon hotels…
Not only is the St Regis a truly stunning property with incredible service, gorgeous rooms and amazing food, the setting is by far the most romantic! Its location is perfect, on a really gorgeous stretch of beach with Le Morne Mountain providing a dramatic backdrop. The sand is powder white and the water is bright Turquoise. As Mauritius is protected by a reef, it provides a stunning, calm lagoon for swimming, with crashing waves breaking in the distance. This setting paired with the unbelievable sunsets of the west coast makes it feel romantic. The St Regis Sabering Ritual on the beach is a great experience, there’s something about sitting back and sipping on rosé bubbles at sunset…
One & Only Le Saint Geran has just had an amazing refurbishment giving it an elegant, light and fresh feel. The white, blue and grey colour pallet gives it a chic & exclusive beach club vibe. For honeymooners, I would recommend one of the beach front rooms, which take in uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, and you’re just a couple of steps away from the beautiful white sandy beach. Le Saint Geran have some really romantic dining options; PRIME is their fine dining, contemporary steakhouse, serving beautiful, high quality steak; La Pointe is the hub of the hotel during the day, you can hire a private cabana for the day or head to the beachfront restaurant, where you can choose your fresh catch of the day before it’s grilled to perfection; and Tapasake is Asian-style small plates, my favourite spot for sunset views overlooking the lagoons whilst sipping on a cocktail.
LUX Belle Mare is one of our firm favourites for honeymooners in Mauritius. It’s located on an absolutely gorgeous stretch of beach and has a contemporary & fun feel to it. This is a great option for honeymooners who appreciate their privacy & romantic touches, but also enjoy something with a bit more going for it. It has quite a lively, yet laidback atmosphere, and is the perfect place to mingle with other guests, if you wish to. The Lux* all-inclusive also means that you can indulge in some of the 8 bars & restaurants with cuisines from all over the world, without having a huge bill at the end of your honeymoon. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the Honeymoon Suites, they’re modern & spacious, with an incredible bathtub & personalised dressing gowns embroidered with your names – Lux* are all about the little touches!
