Afternoon tea, the most quintessential of British traditions, was created in 1840’s by Anna Maria Russell, the Duchess of Bedford. Now afternoon tea is enjoyed all over the world, and no-where is it served better than the colourful islands of the Caribbean. So, to celebrate, we are delighted to share our top four afternoon teas…
Cucumber sandwiches (crusts off!) – Cobblers Cove, Barbados
At Cobblers Cove, afternoon tea is served in a very distinct quaint English style with finger sandwiches and sweet treats brought to you on pink and white Wedgewood China. The hotel has been serving afternoon tea for over 25 years, complimentary to all guests and it can be found in the Great House Pavilion.
Glass of bubbles – Round Hill Hotel & Villa, Jamaica
Afternoon tea at Round Hill is served in the Cocktail Bar, a Ralph Lauren designed space featuring vintage pictures of many celebrity guests including Grace Kelly and Noel Coward to name a few. Swing by from 4-5pm daily to experience homemade treats and a complimentary glass of bubbles! If you fancy a day out saddle up and explore the surrounding area on horseback, enjoy an ‘’English Style’’ ride which pauses at the polo field to enjoy afternoon tea.
Sweet as a Rose – Sandy Lane, Barbados
Four types of afternoon tea are available on the open-air lower terrace. Choose from Royal, Classic, Light and A La Carte – we guarantee any you pick will be delicious! The homemade treats are served on rose patterned china and to go with the theme our favourite sweet bite is the Rose shaped toasted marshmallows! Other assortments include chocolate dipped strawberries and the local grate cake, similar to our much-loved British Fruit Cake.
Local cuppa – Nisbet Plantation, Nevis
The team at Nisbet Plantation have been honouring the tradition of afternoon tea since the 1950’s when the hotel first opened it’s doors. It’s extensive afternoon tea menu is served on its historic Great House Terrace. Along with the sandwiches and cakes there is also the chance to try an island ‘bush’ tea, made with hand-picked leaves and fresh local flavours.
