The Kimpton Canary Hotel, Santa Barbara

Despite the intricate design, mosaic tiling and splashes of bright colour throughout the central parts of the hotel, the bedrooms and suites represent a simple and stylish Californian guesthouse. Dark wood floors, impressive canopy four-poster beds and tastefully chosen fabrics give each room and suite its own character. Couples will love the Romeo & Juliet style balconies in the Premier Deluxe Balcony rooms and families or groups travelling together can opt for a slightly more spacious suite with one, two or three bedrooms.

The beating heart of The Canary is Finch and Fork. A hotel cum community neighbourhood restaurant which consistently tops the locals list for favourite hangouts, and it’s easy to see why from a quick glimpse at the menu. 70% of the food is locally sourced and Chef James Siao serves up a menu of Californian inspired cuisine notably caught-that-day Rainbow Trout, devilled eggs (a local delicacy), hand pulled flat breads and if you’re lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday… Siao’s infamous buttermilk fried chicken – a dish of the day not to miss. If you fancy a quiet night together with your loved ones, private dining is also an option at the Canary, our favourite spot being under the stars at the rooftop pool lounge.

If we start at the bottom and move upwards… the hotel lobby, known as The Living Room’, is a wonderfully friendly and fun place to hang out. With complimentary coffee and fruit infused water served throughout the day and local wines between 5 and 6pm, it’s no wonder why. The concierge team are the best in the ‘Barbara’ business and can help you plan anything from a walking tour of the city to a day trip exploring the neighbouring Channel Islands, or as the locals call them ‘The Galapagos of North America’. The hotels rooftop urban oasis is home to one of the coolest pool areas in town, complete with complimentary sun cream, iced water, lavender scented cold towels and best of all… 360-degree panoramic views over the stunning city of Santa Barbara.
