San Camp, Botswana
Located on the edges of Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, an isolated, yet stunning region located 3 hours away – by car – from Maun. This region is like no other, what you get here is 360 degrees and nothing will cross your eye line but the huge bowl of the sky. Views stretch for miles and you can practically see the curvature of the earth from here. It is truly eye opening and jaw dropping at the same time.
San Camp
The camp itself is like a trip back through time as it consists of a collection of 1940s safari tents - but don’t let this authentic style suggest a lack of quality, it is quite the opposite. The camp has a style and a quality that is hard to imagine, which makes it all the better once you get there.
Each of the six white tents has a bucket shower, flush loo, four-poster bed, mosquito net canopy, percale sheets, and paraffin lamps. There is no electricity at San Camp. The tents stand on the shore of this enormous glistening salt pan and are sheltered by the stately desert palm trees. Yes palm trees.
Game walks and drives take place every day with qualified zoologists and biologists to show you the unique desert flora and fauna. Guests can explore the inner pans on specially adapted vehicles and learn about their ancient history, both geological and human.
San Camps offers a very different experience to the camps in the Delta, as there isn’t anywhere near the same level of animals. However, its guests tend to appreciate it for exactly that. Regular safari goers love it, and for those who can afford to doit alongside time in the Okavango Delta, well they’re in for the safari experience of their life!
