Amboseli

Basking in the shadow of the majestic snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, Kenya’s lesser known Amboseli National Park is all too often overlooked. Yet it has been famous for its herds of elephants for decades - around 1,500 elephants call Amboseli home. In particular, a real draw are the super tuskers – elephants sporting the world’s biggest tusks. Close to the border with Tanzania in southern Kenya, Amboseli encapsulates the quintessential image of an East African safari – elephants tracking slowly with trunks waving and ears flapping across glossy green swamps, with the snow dusted peak of Kilimanjaro as the ever-present backdrop. Accessible via a light aircraft flight from Nairobi, and the perfect twin with a safari in the world acclaimed Masai Mara, Amboseli has a beguiling lure. It is humbling and awe-inspiring to behold the vastness of Africa below as you fly over the elephant rich salt plains, framed by Kili’s dramatic beauty. Amboseli’s geography is its charm and its network of swamps and marshes also attract a wealth of birdlife. The jaw-dropping view of Kilimanjaro is worth every effort of the journey and you may even be lucky enough to meet Craig – Kenya’s largest tusker and a wildlife legend.
