- House in the Wild
House in the Wild
House in the Wild is a unique, family owned and run, luxury eco-safari lodge on the northern edge of the Masai Mara. It is perfect for both families and couples alike and enjoys a secluded setting on the banks of the Mara River, in the private 1,000 acre Naretoi estate within the Enonkishu Conservancy. This is a place which will live long in your memory and from the moment you arrive, you will be captivated by the endearing warmth that the lodge pervades. House in the Wild is the result of a heartfelt story brought to life - a story of rewilding and renewal, with a team at its heart, whose passion breathes magic into every detail of your stay. Once a mud hut on a bean farm, House in the Wild is now a stunningly unique, rustic-chic safari lodge in a thriving wildlife sanctuary. This location was originally one of the largest bean farms in Kenya, but more than 10 years ago, owners Tarquin and Lippa Wood, took a massive leap of faith and made the decision to take the land out of agriculture and give it back to nature. They embarked on an incredible re-wilding journey and today, the livestock and wildlife thrive together. All the staff are from the local community - Naretoi means 'working together' and Lippa and Tarquin have worked and continue to work hand in hand with the local community. The wildlife viewing is fabulous and what's more, a private guide and vehicle are provided for all guests, ensuring your safari experience is exclusively tailored to suit your needs. House in the Wild offers a slower pace of safari and children of all ages are welcome.
House in the Wild
Dining is considered something of an art at House in the Wild, so expect to enjoy some of the most delicious and well-crafted meals you have ever tasted! From bush breakfasts to lunches beside the riverbank whilst watching the hippos below, to surprise sundowners in special locations. Dinner will be a candlelit display of several different courses, each one more impressive than the next. Dine privately in your cottage or take full advantage of the beautiful spaces around the lodge and dine by the pool or on the wooden decking over the river. All salad, fruit and vegetables are grown organically in the Wild Shamba. When safari conviviality beckons, meet other guests in the main mess area and share stories of your day's adventure.
House in the Wild has seven uniquely designed cottages, all built using sustainably sourced local materials. Each is immersed within the beautiful surroundings and even trees form part of the rooms, which adds to the wild experience! All are individually named. Four cottages have one bedroom whilst the other three have two bedrooms - ideal for families, with manicured lawns in front providing space for children to run around. The Warbugia one bedroom cottage has a loft chill-out area with two daybeds which can be used for children. The lodge uses 95% solar energy with water recycled through the eco wetlands.
Additionally, for larger families or groups of friends travelling together, the utterly stunning Wild Villas are part of the House in the Wild collection. These are exclusive use private safari homes, each with a spectacular setting within the estate and conservancy. Each villa promises a unique and truly memorable way to experience a special family safari holiday or celebration and all have swimming pools, their own private team of staff, gorgeous rooms and vast living spaces with breathtaking views!
All families and guests enjoy their own private vehicle and guide, ensuring the privacy and freedom to plan your safari day at your own pace. The wildlife is plentiful and the well-trained guides love to share their local knowledge and passion for the animals.
There are a wealth of activities and experiences for all ages. Big cats and big game roam freely and there is also a nearby rhino sanctuary. Beyond game drives, there are other wonderful ways to connect with the wild. Take to the saddle and explore the bush on horseback (there is a full equestrian stable), go e-biking or running with a guide or even join an early morning work-out with a ranger. Bush walks can be arranged (not recommended for younger children) and there's also catch and release fishing. Learn about the lodge's conservation work at the Mara Training Centre and visit the Wild Shamba (House in the Wild's organic garden). It's not unusual for the guides to organise impromptu games of badminton or football between game drives!
