The spacious, stilted wooden villas are built on the principles of a traditional Khmer village, made with local stone and wood, each with either a raised patio or private plunge pool. Care has been taken to ensure that the interiors reflect the traditional style while exuding a warm, understated aesthetic. Each one is dressed in cool cottons and linen with elegant, handmade wooden furniture, rough stone sinks and bathtubs, antique carved headboards, a few pottery jars and lantern-style lighting, complete with luxury toiletries by Aesop and state-of-the-art entertainment.

There are two restaurants, one by the spectacular pool and one which is modelled on a local food market and offers made-to-order dishes; on the menu are Khmer curries and fish amok with lemongrass, turmeric and galangal, as well as Thai tom yum soup and fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. Step back in time in the quirky cocktail-and-cigar bar, converted from a 100-year-old farmhouse transplanted from the countryside, with rattan wing chairs, pie-crust tables and oriental carpets, reminiscent of Cambodia’s golden days.

The tranquil spa temple and yoga pavilion beckon you to unwind and the 180-foot-long main pool has a view to die for, especially at sunset. The whole is place utterly gorgeous and a firm favourite of the Turquoise Cambodia team.
