Just 25 thatched, whitewashed bungalows line the translucent white sandy beach, each equipped with four-poster beds, outdoor showers and wooden verandas overlooking the sapphire ocean and islands beyond. Some are connecting for families or larger groups and two have two-bedrooms and are elevated on a hillside at the end of the beach with a plunge pool and separate living/dining room.

This Komodo luxury resort operates with eco-friendly principles at its core. Employing its water distillation system, the resort converts abundant saltwater into fresh water. Electricity consumption is kept to a minimum and we must advise that internet connection is not particularly strong – this is what we’d describe as truly ‘off-grid’. The island has one of the most well-preserved underwater ecosystems in the Flores Sea.

A vibrant array of staghorn, elkhorn and vivid brain corals provide a habitat for diverse marine life, from royal angelfish to eagle rays, sea urchins and intriguing octagonal-finned relatives of the lionfish that resemble aquatic spiders. North of the point and at the centre of the reef, guests can encounter baby sharks and turtles, adding to the underwater spectacle.

A day trip into the Kodmodo is a must and we can arrange a speedboat for a day exploring the incredible islands and beaches of this national park, not to mention a chance to view the inimitable Komodo Dragons for which this area is renowned for.
