Shompoo Mekong Cruise, Laos

You will overnight at Sanctuary Pakbeng, a simple but comfortable wooden lodge, located on the banks of the river with magnificent views of the Mekong and the surrounding landscape. Enjoy dinner on the terrace and relax for the evening or you could enjoy a walk into the small village.

Day 1 – On arrival at the Thai border you will cross the bridge by coach and be met the other side by the team from Shompoo Cruises, who will help with the immigration process before transferring you to the river by tuk tuk.

The Shompoo boat leaves Huay Xai pier, on the Thai Laos border, at 9.00am for a cruise down the Mekong River to Pakbeng. En route, a stop is made to observe rural life along the Mekong and visit a Kamu minority village. Authentic Lao cuisine is served for lunch on board, and you arrive in Pakbeng before sunset and check in to your overnight accommodation.

Day 2: Enjoy a full breakfast at the Lodge. (Optional: walk to Pakbeng market, where people from the surrounding village of minorities sell their goods). At 8.30am board the boat for the second leg of the cruise. Stops are made to visit a hilltribe villages before having a buffet lunch on board. Continue to Pak Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River, where you visit the Tam Thing Caves of a Thousand Buddhas. Arrive at Luang Prabang at around 4.30pm, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
