Manila
The metropolis of Manila, widely known as Metro Manila, encompasses 16 cities, including the country’s city capital Manila. There are plenty of airlines flying in and out of Manila, however it is sometimes necessary to include an overnight in the city before flying out to the Philippines' idyllic islands, due to the domestic flight schedules. Turquoise Holidays recommends staying in the city of Makati, known for its upscale malls, and lively social scene, with a great choice of bars and restaurants. It is also home to Ayala Museum, which is well worth a visit for those interested in the history of The Philippines.
Some of the country’s historical hotspots, dating back all the way from the Spanish era from more than 400 years ago, may be found in the city. Intramuros, also known as the ‘Walled City’, is the oldest district in the historic centre of Manila. This was the original seat of the Spanish government during the time that the Philippines was under Spanish rule and can easily be incorporated into a tour of the city’s highlights.
