- Visama Lodge Mae Chan, Thailand
Visama Lodge Mae Chan, Thailand
A remote escape featuring 10 luxury tented retreats built into the verdant mountainous landscape of Mae Chan, approximately 40 minutes’ drive from Chiang Rai, Visama offers a chance to reconnect with nature and immerse yourself in the local community through a variety of authentic experiences.
The essence of this retreat lies in its array of activities that blend cultural experiences with nature immersion. Guests can create a personalized itinerary that includes pottery and painting, foraging, and private picnics. Additional activities include cooking classes featuring Lanna-Thai recipes, spa and wellness sessions, and private tours to heritage attractions such as the Opium Museum in the Golden Triangle and the White Temple near Chiang Rai. At the end of a busy day, the resort pool is the perfect place to cool off and relax in this tranquil sanctuary with stunning hillside views.
Visama Lodge
The luxury tents are perched on raised platforms in the serene hill country setting, ranging from 48 to 80 sqm, each with a spacious veranda overlooking the breathtaking surroundings. The Akha (Standard) Safari Tents are beautifully furnished with four-poster beds and ensuite bathrooms with rain showers. The slightly larger Yao (Deluxe Studio) Tents also boast a bathtub. Upgrade to the Lahu One Bedroom Suites, which feature a separate living and dining space, complete with a Nespresso machine and luxurious touches. For families, the Lisu Tents include a second bedroom. Each tent is fully air-conditioned.
Start your night at The Bar Amrut, a vibrant social space housed in an original 120-year-old Thai house, serving a variety of single malts, fine wines, hot and cold cocktails, and everlasting Mojitos and Margaritas, all accompanied by a range of appetizers. This is the perfect place to meet your campmates before indulging in delicious local cuisine at Reu Doo Gaan restaurant, which follows a farm-to-table approach, sourcing produce from the adjacent farm. Open throughout the day, the chefs pride themselves on specialties from Northern Thailand. The best nights end at The Ambalama, the fireside gathering spot where visiting authors, historians, and guests alike share stories and reflect on time well spent.
