Orpheus Island Holiday Resort, Australia
Accessible via a magical 30 minute helicopter transfer from Townsville, or one hour from Cairns, this coral fringed island hideaway sits within its own pristine national park amidst one of the world’s greatest natural wonders - the Great Barrier Reef.
Read on to discover more about Orpheus Island Holiday Resort, off the coast of Australia.
Orpheus Island
From the moment you land on the glistening turquoise waters, you will feel the pressures of modern day life slip away. Orpheus caters for a maximum of just 34 guests in stylish accommodation which is spread along the beachfront. The accommodation offers natural colour schemes, blonde timbers, crisp white linen, 32" TV, Bella coffee machine and Li'tya guest amenities to ensure a tranquil sanctuary for you to unwind in, whilst private terraces boast Coral Sea views, languid sea breezes and serene Orpheus sunsets. Choose from North Wing accommodation with a unique ambience and a beautiful balance between contemporary and minimalist island aesthetic, or the The South Wing which ensures utter privacy in a laid-back luxe setting. Just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge, the garden view accommodation is unobtrusive and comfortable. As one of the only luxury properties on the reef that welcomes children, this ‘new’ undiscovered tropical destination in Australia is a hidden gem!
A large part of Orpheus’ reputation is built on its cuisine. The open terrace restaurant is the lodge’s heart and soul, where guests converge to enjoy tapas-style lunches and degustation dinners. Rates are inclusive of all gourmet meals, celebrating a bounty of locally-sourced, wholesome and freshly caught and grown seasonal delights, a selection of Australian wines and beers, a daily nature-based experience, and the island’s signature ‘Dining with the Tides’ experience which allows guests to enjoy dinner on the Orpheus jetty under a starlit canopy.
Orpheus provides the perfect backdrop for a quiet interlude where guests can simply shut off from the outside and spend quality time each other. If you insist on being active, the options on Orpheus are plentiful. The island certainly lives up to its namesake - the unbelievably blue waters around Orpheus boast an abundance of tropical fish and coral, just perfect for snorkelling - or you can board the custom-built glass bottom boat for a coral-viewing cruise with the marine biologist. You can also explore the island’s mangrove ecosystem in a 2-person kayak - join a guided walk for an introduction to the island’s flora and fauna - or at night, go ‘star-gazing’ with a guide to learn about the constellations of the southern skies.
Scuba diving on the outer reef can be arranged - or you can take a motorised dinghy to one of the island’s many secluded bays for a romantic picnic lunch on a deserted sheltered beach. Of course, doing nothing but lazing in a hammock is also part of the experience! Other facilities include a tennis court, two swimming pools and a gym.
