- New Zealand by Campervan
New Zealand by Campervan
New Zealand’s stunning scenery is best appreciated from the open road, and hiring a campervan (also known as a motorhome) for part of your holiday guarantees you a ring-side seat to the diverse and ever-changing vistas. From golden beaches, native rainforests and hidden bays to rugged mountains, geothermal activity and glacial lakes, the range of scenery is extensive and truly breathtaking. If spending two or three weeks in a campervan seems a little daunting, you might prefer to have a rental car and pre-booked accommodation for part of your stay, and then hop in a campervan for the next part, giving you the sense of two holidays in one.
A world away from the simple and quirky campervans of old, the range of vehicles offered today bring supreme comfort, extensive facilities and spacious design to the open road. Brilliantly well-designed, it's easy to wine and dine your way around New Zealand, and the spacious interiors are perfect for relaxing and sleeping.
Getting around both islands is easy and you can take your motorhome on the Wellington to Picton ferry that crosses regularly between the North and South Islands. You’ll have an idea of the places you’d like to see but a campervan lets you change your plans on a whim. You might chat to a local and find yourself exploring an area you’d never heard of or end up staying somewhere longer than you’d planned. In peak season (December to February), we recommend pre-booking the ferry crossing as well as some campsites so you can travel with peace of mind, but at quieter times of the year, you can make the most of the flexibility that a campervan brings.
