Baja California Sur & Los Cabos Highlights
Poised on the southern point of the Baja California Sur Peninsula, Los Cabos has a little something for everyone between its two main towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. The former is famous for its exciting nightlife, happening atmosphere, and iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas whereas San José del Cabo offers a more peaceful ambiance with gorgeous beaches, art galleries, and colonial buildings. There is no end of activities in Los Cabos – choose from whale watching, kayaking, sport fishing, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, dining out on delectable street food or refined plates, championship golf courses, or simply relaxing on any of the pristine beaches. Soak up Los Cabos’ incredible views where the waves of the Pacific Ocean join the calmer waters of the Sea of Cortez.
Found on the eastern coastline of the peninsula, the capital is a beautiful and authentic hidden gem full of charm, character, and some of the best seafood! Historic streets and a seafront promenade are filled with energetic cafes and eclectic street art. It’s highly recommended to stop off at this laid-back coastal town blessed with crystal clear waters and soak up its ambiance. Explore Espíritu Santo Island just off La Paz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of natural life.
Spoilt with a stunning backdrop of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, Todos Santos emits a great bohemian vibe. A characterful Pubelo Mágico town filled with artists and so much creative energy gives Todos Santos a unique blend of laid-back living with rich culture. Take a seat in a quaint café and watch surfers glide across the waves with a candy floss sunset silhouetting the horizon.
Laguna Ojo de Liebre and Laguna San Ignacio are some of the incredible sanctuaries where the yearly migration of grey whales turns these waters into a humbling spectacle – visitors can experience an intimate viewing of these gentle giants within a protected setting as the natural lagoons act as predator barriers. The best time of year to witness this amazing sight is between January and April (specifically mid-January to mid-April for calving).
For a spot of history, head to the coastal gem Loreto overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Known for its characterful town and rugged rock formations rising out of the sea, Loreto is a great choice for authenticity with picturesque crystal clear waters. It’s also a gateway to whale watching in Magdalena Bay, or diving adventures in the Sea of Cortez.

The best time to visit Baja Califonia Sur & Los Cabos
The dry season for Baja California Sur and Los Cabos runs from December to April, while the rainy season is from July to October. Hence its name, the dry season is your best bet for uninterrupted sunshine, where the temperatures average around 28°C. Showers do still occur but they are infrequent. January to April is the perfect time to visit for whale watching. Join an excursion into one of the lagoons where you can simply stay in one spot and watch them swim right up to you.
Towards the end of the dry season, around May, the humidity and temperature start to rise. Between July and October, the humidity can be fierce while temperatures can top 35°C. May to November is the official hurricane season and while the west coast dodges many of the hurricanes headed for landfall (as they turn north), storms are not uncommon. The silver lining is the summer months are perfect for surfing or turtle hatchling releases.
