Post Ranch Inn, California

A jewel in the Pacific Coast Highway’s rugged crown is Post Ranch Inn. Perched atop a Californian cliff edge, the 100-acre Post family estate was formerly a working cattle farm. Now home to an exclusive, eco minded luxury retreat, Post Ranch Inn boasts what can be simply described as one of the best ocean views in the world. Every wall and window has been placed with the view and the environment in mind. Once inside your recycled redwood cabin or tree house, if it weren’t for the fine dining restaurant or award winning spa just a few steps away, you might find it hard to leave the comfort of your room.

Sleep

The genius behind the Post Ranch Inn concept is Mickey Muennig. An incredibly influential environmental architect in the region, Muennig spent month’s climbing trees and camping on the cliff edge when planning the footprint of the hotel. By doing this he ensured that each room would be in the best position for lighting and views without causing damage to the extensive network of redwood trees below. The ocean facing hobbit houses (as they are known amongst the Post family and guests) are grass roofed… partly for insulation and partly to encourage the surrounding flora and fauna to flourish around each freestanding unit. For anyone who has dreamt of sleeping amidst the trees, the stilted houses in the forest are a grown ups playground waiting to be discovered. The interiors are akin to the environmental prowess throughout and yet all fully equipped with the latest technologies and cosy fireplaces.

Eat

Sierra Mar is the breathtaking Post Ranch Inn dining room, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, each meal served with incredible ocean views. Choose from an a la carte or set menu with mouth-watering delicacies inspired by fresh local flavours and produce, and pair with a bottle from one of the longest wine lists in the state! Reservations are not necessary for guests however do make sure you request a table either on the balcony or as close to the window as possible. The entire front wall of the restaurant is glass, so between divine mouthfuls, inspired conversation and a sophisticated ambience the jaw-droppingly stunning view is just the icing on the cake.

Pamper & Play

With 100 acres at your fingertips, a stay at Post Ranch wouldn’t be complete without a proper adventure. Big Sur is known for its amazing hidden beaches, only accessible by foot.
