Bawah Reserve, Indonesia

Barely visible on a map, Bawah Reserve is a true Robinson Crusoe Hideaway, an almost Maldivian style  scattering of islands located somewhere in the middle of the South China Sea between mainland Malaysia and the island of Borneo. Officially part of Indonesia, yet a world away from any of its surrounding neighbours. Getting there is part of the adventure - a private guide will escort you from your hotel in Singapore over to Batam Island to clear Indonesian customs before boarding their private sea plane for the hour long journey to the island.

Highlights

Bawah Reserve

Sleep

Bawah is a barefoot, back-to-nature beauty, set in a previously uninhabited marine conservation zone across five, lush, forest-canopied islands, three sheltered lagoons and 13 beaches. There are 35 tented villas made by hand from natural materials such as bamboo, driftwood and recycled teak, with beautiful recycled copper sinks and showers in the bathrooms. Choose from Overwater Bungalows with steps into the ocean, Beachfront Suites overlooking the pristine lagoon or Garden Suites surrounded in green flora.

Eat

There are two main restaurants at Bawah Reserve - The Boat House Bar & Restaurant and The Treetop Club House Restaurant. Lighter snacks and drinks can be enjoyed at The Grouper Beach and Pool Bar whilst The Wallace Library and Jules Verne Lookout Bar are perfect for sundowners or a late night cocktail. Private dining experiences can also be organised as there are numerous places for picnics and al fresco dining around the resort.

Play and Pamper

This paradise is home to three crystal clear lagoons and powder beaches. The islands are covered in a lush jungle canopy that provides spectacular cover while trekking. There is lots to do on Bawah. From various water sport activities around the marine eco-system to jungle trekking through the lush fauna. Enjoy snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding and tennis or a jungle trek to one the beaches. Excursions to neighbouring islands and fishing villages can be organised too or you can choose to relax by the pool or head to the spa for some pampering.

Your stay at Bawah Reserve includes all transfers from Singapore and all your meals and non-alcoholic drinks, Minibar, full unpacking service, all activities from non-motorised watersports, other island activities such as spa treatments, and hiking, open-air cinema, star-gazing and bird-watching. Alcoholic beverages and diving are additional cost. The resort will also offer a complimentary daily laundry service as there is a 15kg restriction on luggage. The dress code is very casual so you won’t need too much and you certainly don’t need shoes, so we suggest leaving your larger suitcases at your Singapore hotel and bringing a soft bag for your stay at Bawah.
