Manila

This barefoot bohemian island hideaway off the coast of Zanzibar (on unspoilt Pemba Island, Zanzibar's little known sister to the north) is the epitome of twenty-first century Robinson Crusoe shabby chic! Its laid-back charm is perfect for a post-safari chill-out – and what’s more, a stay at Fundu is all-inclusive ….as well as meals, soft drinks, house wines, local beers and use of snorkelling equipment, you can enjoy unguided mangrove canoe safaris and village treks. Pemba is known for its frequent sightings of migrating humpback whales between August and November and a resident pod of dolphins live in the waters offshore - pop out to see them on an early morning boat trip and then return for breakfast. Fundu is a top dive location too. Only accessible by boat (getting there is all part of the experience), Fundu Lagoon is spread along a natural beach where the jungle meets the sea.

History

Some of the country’s historical hotspots, dating back all the way from the Spanish era from more than 400 years ago, may be found in the city. Intramuros, also known as the ‘Walled City’, is the oldest district in the historic centre of Manila. This was the original seat of the Spanish government during the time that the Philippines was under Spanish rule and can easily be incorporated into a tour of the city’s highlights.
