Lamai Serengeti, Tanzania

Lamai Serengeti not only offers a unique experience but also a level of luxury which is hard to find anywhere else in the Serengeti. There are just 12 luxury tented rooms in total, split between two separate camps - the Main Camp and the smaller Private Camp. Each tent site has been carefully designed so as to take full advantage of the complex geometry of the kopje, its sensational location, its views and the natural space and light. All rooms are a clever blend of canvas, ferro and natural poles with expansive verandahs spread within the rocks.

Each camp has its own private bar and dining area, with adjoining library and map room - as well as its own natural rock swimming pool. Activities include game drives, guided walks (the topography - small valleys, river lines and rocky kopjes - lends itself well to being on your feet), bush picnics and sundowners... not to mention the fact that your expansive verandah provides an open window onto life in the Serengeti.

The permanent water of the Mara River is home to large numbers of crocodiles and hippos - and this is also the setting for one of nature's greatest dramas - the famous wildebeest river crossing of the great migration (from July to October)....and a river crossing here will rarely see more than a handful of other vehicles (unlike the Masai Mara). Essentially, for roughly a quarter of the year, this is where you'll find the migration - right here, on your doorstep!
