Northern Tanzania
Tanzania’s northern parks are some of Africa’s most famous destinations – and for good reason. The Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Mt Kilimanjaro are home to bucket list attractions such as ‘The Great Migration’, the ‘Ngorongoro Crater’ and the ‘Great Rift Valley’.
Furthermore, the lesser known parks also offer and incredible experience, Tarangire for example is known for its huge population of elephant & tree climbing lions, and Lake Manyara is home to over 400 species of birds!
Game viewing is excellent all year round, so there is no bad time to go, however it is particularly good between Januarys through to March & June through to October.
January – March are the hottest months, which means less water is available so the wildlife congregates to where it is viable, which ultimately results in great game viewing. It is also the calving season then; this is when the wildebeest give birth to their young in the southern parts of the Serengeti. The result of the calving is high predator activity, which makes very exciting game viewing!
June - October is the dry season, which is a fantastic time of year to travel. The game viewing is rife, the scenery is stunning and the atmosphere is exciting. It is also a very good time to visit the coast – it is at its peak this time of year, which works perfectly for summer honeymooners!
April - May bring the long rains (referred as the green season), which can make access to camps difficult – although it is a great time of year for flora and birding. Whereas November and December see shorts rains, do not let this put you off, you can still enjoy good game viewing and stunning scenery. It is also perfect for photography and also benefits from being much quieter than the peak seasons.
