- Constance Halaveli, Maldives
Constance Halaveli Hotel, Maldives
It seems fitting that Constance Halaveli is situated on an island in the shape of a dhoni, a traditional Maldivian boat. That's because the whole Halaveli experience is a classic slice of the Maldives, exuding a natural elegance and barefoot way of living that's incredibly easy to adjust to on an island boasting cotton-white beaches and a palm-covered core latticed by sandy pathways. There's a gentle aura of luxury across Constance Halaveli, a place where time seems to permanently stand still and the raw beauty of this pristine paradise is a joy to just sit and soak up.
Constance Halaveli boasts one of the longest jetties in the Maldives, meaning every one of its water villas are generous in size but also feel wonderfully private from one another. More dhoni references lie within, with every roof thatched in the shape of the traditional boats, too. Its position in the North Ari Atoll also makes the resort a haven for water babies, with everything from fish-filled marine worlds suitable for novice snorkellers to PADI-certified courses that'll gear you up for diving with whale sharks.
At the end of the day, simple pleasures rule supreme at Constance Halaveli. Its beach at sunset is the most magical place, where the gentle breeze on your face and rhythmic waves of the Indian Ocean confirm your worlds away from ordinary life.
Constance Halaveli
This all (plunge) pool villa island offers a stunning choice of contemporary accommodation. For those who want that quintessential beach-lover experience, the Beach Villas and Double Storey Beach Villas are perfection personified. The clever use of natural wood and a neutral palate of colours ensure the perfect blend with the outside world, whilst all the creature comforts expected can be found. Your own private plunge pool to play in is set over looking the soft sands.
Snaking away from the island, a nearly one kilometre-long jetty weaves through the ocean punctuated by the thatched roofs of the Water Villas set on stilts over the impossibly blue Indian Ocean. Not only do these beautiful villas boast open-plan sleeping and a living space, you have your own private deck for lazy days in the sun. They all come with steps which descend into the warm waters below and a private plunge pool for when even the effort of leaving the comfort of your villa becomes just a little too overwhelming.
Constance Halaveli boasts four restaurants and two bars. Jahaz effortlessly combines elegance with a laid-back ambience, a toes-in-the-sand space where a delicious worldwide buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Themed evenings mix it up, with live music and beach barbecues often the order of the day. The restaurant actively caters for any kind of request or dietary requirement, with dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus, selections for gluten-free travellers and a Life Nutrition menu for those who are particularly health-conscious. Located halfway along Halaveli's jetty, Jing is European and Asian fusion food set spectacularly overwater – a candlelit dinner here at sunset is magical. Meeru is a beach grill specialising in meat and seafood dishes, while Kaika Sushi serves up fresh sushi, sashimi and maki overlooking the dreamy lagoon.
Jahaz and Jing both come with accompanying bars, with the former boasting a menu of creative cocktails and iced teas soundtracked by live music, while the latter combines cocktails with epic overwater views – the best end to any night.
Constance Halaveli's position in the North Ari Atoll means it's surrounded by magnificent marine worlds. Snorkellers will enjoy the extensive marine life along with a comprehensive on-site dive centre which means you can explore shipwrecks, glide alongside manta rays and whale sharks and even explore the coral reefs by night. All non-motorised water sports are complimentary, while beach volleyball and football are some of the activities you can do on land. For the Federer wannabes among us, there's even an artificial tennis court complete with a professional coach for lessons. The overwater Constance Spa offers the ultimate in tranquillity and all treatment rooms have those hypnotic water views and each massage, facial and treatment is packed with ingredients inspired by the plants in the surrounding Indian Ocean.
Constance Halaveli is also handsomely stocked with epic experiences. You can go on cruises to either spot dolphins or simply enjoy against the backdrop of a fiery sunset, various types of fishing trips or hire a boat to explore by yourself.
For families, the Constance Kids' Club is suitable for youngsters aged 4-11 years old. Featuring interactive play areas, traditional arts and crafts, a separate pool, themed days where children can make their own pizzas and ice cream and much more, the imaginations of your young ones can run wild!
Expect the ultimate in tranquillity and relaxation at the overwater Constance Spa. All treatment rooms have those hypnotic water views and each massage, facial and treatment is packed with ingredients inspired by the plants in the surrounding Indian Ocean. The spa even has its own ocean salon with its own hairdresser and stylist, while also offering manicures and pedicures. There is a sublime main pool, so even if you book a Water Villa you can still enjoy a day at the beach if the desire takes you.
